Clog Heroes, the King George, VA Plumber Between the Potomac and the Rappahannock
King George County, Virginia homeowners can call Clog Heroes for plumbing, drain and sewer work. King George County has a river on each side: the Potomac to the north and the Rappahannock to the south. In between are 180 square miles of land, and more than half of the county's 10,679 homes were built in 2000 or later.
New house or old one, a Clog Heroes technician starts by looking. What they find gets explained in plain language, and the fix gets a written price you approve first.

Northern Neck Since 1720
King George was formed from Richmond County in 1720, on the Northern Neck between the Potomac and Rappahannock Rivers.
Then there's Dahlgren. The Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division. It traces back to a 1918 War Department weapons-testing site, and more than ten thousand people work for it or for businesses tied to it.
U.S. Route 301 crosses the Potomac on the Governor Harry W. Nice Memorial Bridge. Route 301, State Route 3 and State Route 218 carry most of the traffic through the county.
From 900 Customers to Nearly 4,600
The King George County Service Authority began in 1992 by taking over water and wastewater systems from neighborhoods like the Dahlgren and Fairview Beach sanitary districts. It has grown from about 900 customers to nearly 4,600, roughly 17 percent of county residents.
Its primary service areas are Dahlgren, Fairview Beach, Oakland Park, Courthouse, Circle, Presidential Lakes, Cleydael, Nindes, Hopyard Farm, Arnolds Corner, Peppermill and the Industrial Park.
Outside those areas, many homes run on a private well. Across Virginia, 92 percent of households with a private well also use a septic system, says the Virginia Department of Health. Tell us which you have when you book.
Bald Eagles, the Fall Festival and 76 Frosty Nights
Caledon State Park covers 2,587 acres on the Potomac and is a National Natural Landmark. Bald eagles spend the summer there, and the 2-mile Boyd's Hole Trail is a fine way to look for them.
Every October since 1959, on the second weekend, the King George Fall Festival brings a parade, a carnival, a craft fair, a car show and a 5K run.
Winter still bites by the river. The Quantico station on the Potomac logs about 76 nights a year at or below freezing and 12.4 inches of snow. Know where your main shutoff is.
James Madison Was Born at Port Conway
The fourth president of the United States was born in King George County. James Madison arrived on March 16, 1751, at Belle Grove on U.S. Route 301 in Port Conway, the house where his mother, Nelly Conway, grew up.
The house you see today came a little later. John Hipkins built it in 1792 for his only child, Fannie. Carolinus Turner bought it in 1839 and added the porticos and end wings. Look for the undulating porches on the land side.
Virginia added Belle Grove to its Landmarks Register in September 1972, and the National Register of Historic Places followed on April 11, 1973.
15.7 Miles of Old Railroad Bed
During World War II the federal government built a railroad to serve the Navy base at Dahlgren. Its bed is now the Dahlgren Railroad Heritage Trail, 15.7 miles from the western edge of the county to the Naval Surface Warfare Center. Hikers, cyclists, runners and horseback riders share it.
The trail opened on June 6, 2006. It is a National Recreation Trail and part of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail, which makes a long walk here part of a much longer route.
Curious about the base at the far end? The Dahlgren Heritage Museum, at 3540 James Madison Parkway, opened in October 2013 with exhibits and naval artifacts that tell its story.
Barnesfield Park and a Beach by the Bridge
Barnesfield Park, at 3360 Barnesfield Road, was the county's first park. It opened in 1988 on 154 acres, and it has three softball fields, a Little League field, two multipurpose fields, picnic shelters, a playground and basketball courts.
Bring a frisbee, too. The park's 18-hole disc golf course has red tees for beginners and white tees for intermediate players.
For the water, try Wayside Park at 3435 Roseland Road. Its seven acres sit beside the Harry Nice/Thomas "Mac" Middleton Bridge, with a small beach and access to the Potomac.
Team sports have a second home at Sealston Sports Complex, opened in 2009, with four softball and baseball fields, 10 acres of rectangular fields and a picnic shelter. Racquet players head to the King George Tennis Center, home courts for the high school team, where six pickleball courts are lined over the north courts. It's open to the public outside school hours.
Back home, if something isn't right with a drain or a pipe, a Clog Heroes technician explains what they find in plain language. Then you get the price in writing.
