Little Mine Road Baptist Church, Founded 1859
Little Mine Road Baptist Church was founded in 1859 on a dirt path off Mine Road, the spot now called Lane's Corner. It became the first established African American congregation in Spotsylvania County.
On September 1, 1877, the congregation bought land from members Reuben and Lucy A. Johnson and built a frame church. A sturdier second building followed in 1902.
In 1909 the Spotsylvania Sunday School Union met there. James Lewis Terrell I moved to build a school for Black children, and it became the Spotsylvania Graded School.
